Suniel Shetty bringing back Biggest Loser Jeetega

After the success of his reality show "Biggest Loser Jeetega" on Sahara One, fitness freak Suniel Shetty is coming with the second season of the weight loss programme. But Bollywood actor-producer Suniel, who brain-stormed, conceived, executed and anchored the show, says this time he will be supervising "Biggest Loser Jeetega" from behind the camera."'Biggest Loser...' has been my life's biggest challenge and victory. To get so many contestants to lose as much as 40 kg at a go was no mean achievement. So, yeah, I'm bringing back the show. But I'd leave the practical execution and the nitty-gritty to my co-producer Rahul Aggarwal," Suniel told IANS."For me giving the full-time attention and focus that the show requires is not possible at the moment," he added.Suniel is extremely busy as an actor and producer."But, yes, I'd be there to give the show all the boost it requires. We want the second innings of 'Biggest Loser Jeetega' to be bigger and more decisive than the first part. Otherwise there's no point in encoring the show."Apart from "Biggest Loser...", Suniel had planned a film on the Mumbai train blasts in 2006 titled "Little Godfather", but it got derailed."This film is our tribute to the brave people of Mumbai who stood up to the extreme attack of terrorism on 7/11 and emerged almost unscathed. We really wanted the 'Little Godfather' release to coincide with 7/11. But the film stars a bunch of completely new faces and they need more time to get into character than experienced actors."So, we decided not to rush it. There was no point. The film has 8-9 new young actors, all straight from the streets and trained by my director Joy Augustine through intense workshops. The film needs rigorous promotion because it's got no stars. But every one of those 8-9 faces is a potential star," said Suniel proudly, adding that he has always been fond of promoting new talent.Another big plan for 7/11 which fell through was "Mission Istanbul". If Suniel had his way he would've released the film on schedule on July 11. However it got delayed and was finally released on July 25."It was a film on international terrorism and we wanted it out in the week of 7/11 when the train blasts shook Mumbai. But then post-production took longer than we expected."

I'd love to work with Freida

"Slumdog Millionaire" star Freida Pinto expressed a desire to work with Bollywood's talented filmmaker Madhur Bhandarkar's film and the director says he is flattered and the he would "love to work with her".It all started when Freida in an interview to the international press said that she would do a Bollywood film only if it was a Bhandarkar film. "I'm quite flattered to hear Freida wants to work with me. I think she is aware of my female-oriented cinema. She must have seen the performances that Tabu and Konkona Sen Sharma gave in 'Chandni Bar' and 'Page 3'. I'd love to work with Freida," Bhandarkar told IANS. "Today, I'm at a stage where an actress of Freida's international popularity singles me out. I guess I must've done something right in these 10 years as a director. Can you imagine the kind of potboilers I'd be making if my first film 'Trishakti' had clicked?" Bhandarkar is currently busy shooting for "Jail" with Neil Nitin Mukesh and Mugdha Godse.

Shah Rukh replaces Aamir?

Shah Rukh Khan is said to be doing Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidwani’s film after the deal with Aamir Khan fell through. Aamir was the favourite choice for director Reema Kagti’s upcoming film, to be produced by Farhan and Ritesh, with whom Aamir has worked with in “Dil Chahta Hai”. The three are also good friends. However, Aamir is no longer doing their film as he is said to have demanded a huge sum of money and also a share in the film’s profit. These terms were not acceptable to Ritesh. It seems Ritesh had gone to the sets of “3 Idiots” to meet Aamir and finalise the deal. But the meeting did not go well as Aamir was not ready to compromise on the terms and conditions that he had laid. Ritesh got upset and left the sets in a huff. Ritesh confirmed the news saying Aamir is not in his film as they had differences over the terms laid down by Aamir. He also added that though they were in talks with an actor, the lead is still to be finalised. Aamir meanwhile has said he is not doing the film because he did not like the script.

Aamir, Akshay, Hrithik nominated for action awards

Bollywood stars Aamir Khan, Akshay Kumar and Hrithik Roshan are in the race to bag the best actor award at the AXN Action Awards. While Aamir has been nominated for "Ghajini" (pictured above), Akshay is in contention for "Tashan" and Hrithik for "Jodhaa Akbar". "'Ghajini' is a film that required a lot of aggression that exposes the basic crude emotion of human loss. I'm honoured to be nominated in the best action actor category, as the action in the film is more complex and thought provoking, showcasing anger, vengeance and physical violence," said Aamir in a statement. In the best actor in a negative role category, the competition is between Imran Khan for "Kidnap", Saif Ali Khan for "Race" and Kay Kay Menon for "Drona". "'Race' is a thoroughbred action film, complete with flamboyance and panache. I enjoyed performing the stunts and watching the movie evolve into a suave piece of cinema. I am thrilled to be nominated for my role," he said. The results will depend on public voting which is now open. Fans can cast their votes by logging on to www.axnactionawards.com or by texting (from India) to 52525. The winners will be announced on the channel next month.

Salman Khan-Katrina Kaifs enemies!

SRK & Rani - Anything you can do

But Anil Kapoor's beloved daughter won't give in to all his demands much like her 'Delhi-6' character Bittu, who wants to be free

She's sophisticated, charming and talented, much like her supremely successful father Anil Kapoor. Her much-hyped debut “Saawariya” might have been the debacle of the year but like her tenacious father, she's not about to let the failure pull her down. Sonam's back with “Delhi-6” by none other than Rang De Basanti's celebrated director Rakyesh Omprakash Mehra, and that too opposite Abhishek Bachchan. Sonam plays this young loveable girl Bittu in the movie, someone so ordinary and yet so special. The actress admits her character represents “80 per cent of the people in India” – the youth. Mehra is an ace when it comes to youth-oriented subjects – the revolution that “Rang De Basanti” started is still on. "Bittu doesn't want to become a graduate then marry someone her father chooses for her. She wants to create her own identity. Those between the ages of 18 and 28 will identify with my character. “Delhi-6” is a universal story that everybody will like," says Sonam. The pretty actress admits to being similar to Bittu in her own life. She's been torn between following her parents' wishes and being her own person. "I don't want to hurt my parents or go against their wishes," she says. But there are differences between her and Bittu, the biggest being the socioeconomic class the two belong to. "Plus I am from Mumbai and she's from Delhi. Girls from Mumbai are very different from those in Delhi."

How did Shilpa Shetty react when she met the Queen of Jordan in South Africa? She tells Masala! all...

Shilpa Shetty may not know too much about cricket, but we have to admit she has stayed with her cricket team right through the IPL, quite unlike some superstars we could mention. In an exclusive interview, she tells Masala! what else she has been up to in SA...We heard you met Queen Rania. How did that happen? We were staying in the same hotel in Johannesburg. One day when I entered the lobby I saw Queen Rania walking down with her entourage. So I politely stepped aside. We exchanged smiles and then she actually stopped and spoke to me! I had no idea she would even know of me, but as we spoke I realised that London was her second home.I was overwhelmed by her kindness and humility. I met her for a second time the same day by the pool and we had an extended conversation then and even exchanged telephone numbers.I invited her to join us at the president’s box at the Wanderers stadium for a Rajasthan Royals game. She very sweetly accepted and came for her first T20 match.

Slumdog star explains his life’s mantra on the sidelines of the Cartier Dubai Polo Challenge 09

Indian actor Anil Kapoor, who played the key role of the Millionaire show anchor in the multiple-Oscar winning Slumdog Millionaire, says he has never been afraid to experiment – or fail.“I’m always ready to fail, to fall flat on my face. If you want to do something exceptional, want to be someone different, you have to be ready to fail. “Sometimes, just for the heck of it, I like to experiment, take up a role and a movie that’s totally different,” he told masala.com in an interview. Slumdog, Kapoor agreed, was one such experiment. “And now look at the results!” he said.Kapoor said he was thrilled with all the positive reaction Slumdog had triggered in India. And he dismissed all the negative reaction, no matter where it came from. “Such criticism cannot be taken seriously,” he said.Kapoor vividly remembered every moment at the Oscars. “I could hardly control myself,” he said. “My wife kept SMS-ing me, ‘try and control yourself!’. Can you imagine what it felt like? There I was, in Kodak Theatre, listening to an Indian composer sing, watching Indian dancers move. I was so, SO proud when Rahman and Resul went up on stage to receive their Oscars! That was one of the proudest moments of my life – ever!”Anil Kapoor, already a successful star in Indian cinema with superhits such as Tezaab, Ram Lakhan, Mr India and Race, is now ready to screen his own production, Shortcut.

Akshay Kumar talks about his second flop of the year and things he's really worried about

His success spell broke early this year, when “Chandni Chowk To China” dashed all the hopes that were riding on it. But the reputation that Akshay Kumar has built over the years came to his rescue. And he came out virtually unscathed from the fiasco. But now “8X10 Tasveer”, his second release of the year, has also failed to click. We get Akki talking on the film and issues that are of concern to him. Excerpts… Do you think the audience failed to relate to the film's title? That is a possibility. I remember I did a film titled ‘Daag, The Fire’ which was quite confusing as daag and fire are different things. And yet the film worked. But it’s possible that the title of the film impacts its performance. Having said that, I feel “8X10 Tasveer” is very good title for the film and we couldn’t come up with anything better. When I got the script too the title written on it was ‘8X10’ and Nagesh was convinced it works. So we went ahead with it

Choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant hopes to get him there

Leading Indian choreographer Vaibhavi Merchant's semi-autobiographical musical "The Merchants of Bollywood" is set to be staged in Malaysia in July and she hopes to get superstar Shah Rukh Khan to attend the gala."I am very excited to see it being staged here in Malaysia. Perhaps I can try pulling Shah Rukh from his busy schedule to come and see the show in Kuala Lumpur," said Vaibhavi, who is in Kuala Lumpur to promote the musical, The Star newspaper said on Tuesday. Highly popular in Malaysia, Khan was made a Datuk, a traditional Malaysian knighthood, earlier this year. Vaibhavi is one of the most sought after choreographers in Bollywood, working with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Shah Rukh. The 90-minute musical will feature 48 songs including smash hits from Bollywood movies. The cast of 53 will go through 1,200 costume changes and wear 2,500 pieces of Indian jewellery. The musical showcases the artistry of classical Indian dance moves fused with modern dance genres, funk, disco and hip-hop.

Goes berserk dancing with Davar’s mom

From May 29 to June 3, dance guru Shiamak Davar presented his Summer FunkTM Workshop and Show 2009 in Mumbai. This year, Shiamak is celebrating 25 years in show business in India, 15 years of offering students the Summer Funk™ platform and 20 years of his classes in Mumbai.More than 20,000 family members and friends watched students perform over five days at the Shanmukananda Auditorium. Among the guests was Abhishek Bachchan, who went berserk dancing with Shiamak’s mother on stage. “Summer Funk is the best thing on Earth,” he said. Also seen rocking were singers Abhijeet and music director Adesh Srivastava, along with his wife Vijeyta

A tangy, flavourful often funny but not fully developed plot

With its swaggering commentary on match-fixing and middleclass over-reaching '99' is an original piece of work, if not a classifiable work of art
After almost two months of aridity at the theatres one is happy to straightaway take the plunge into the never-ending wonders of la-la land, also known as the silver screen. "99" is not the film you'd have liked to see after such a long period of deprivation. Where you'd want a big burp-inducing pickled and pappadomed thali, "99" serves up a tangy appertif that you can nibble with pleasure but not quite sink your teeth into. This is a sorted-out sly swipe at the cinema of Quentin Tarantino and Oliver Stone where violence is satirised into a quirky comic capricious crime caper colonised by characters who are losers by instinct, nonetheless endearing in their defeatism. The film takes some time to settle down in its groove. The first half an hour is a zonked-out mess with the co-directors indulging in a smirky we-know-it-all game of camera cockiness which leaves us exasperated. The characters, like the wacked-out crime-dud Mahesh Manjrekar and the two petty criminals - Kunal Khemu and Cyrus Brocha - begin to make sense once they move to Delhi. The two are sent to collect money from a perennial fiscal misadventurer played by the ever-dependable Boman Irani with an urbane anxiety that teeters on neurosis.

Karisma Kapoor on judging a new reality show and the chemistry between couples

'I need to run after my daughter the whole day long. Looking after her not only gives me satisfaction as a mother but also keeps me fit in the bargain,' says Karisma
All those who were hoping to see Karisma Kapoor back on the big screen post her stint on Star One’s dance reality show “Nach Baliye” have been pleasantly surprised to see her returning on television as a judge on a comedy show. Joining her in “Hans Baliye” is director David Dhawan, with whom Karisma has delivered several hit films. Clad in a pair of slim black jeans, there seemed to be no hint of marriage and motherhood in Karisma’s shapely figure as she stood tall facing the media queries at a recent event for the new TV show. What’s the secret behind your svelte figure?

Why is his mum accusing the actress?

A special police squad flew to Mumbai on Friday to search for one of actress Asin's former employees who has allegedly gone missing. The star, meanwhile, said he had called her many times asking for huge sums of money."A team headed by a deputy superintendent of police flew to Mumbai today (Friday) to find Asin's missing assistant N Muthu Kumar on the basis of a complaint from his mother S Vadivu," a police official told IANS.Kumar's family has alleged that he has gone 'missing' because of abuse by the actor - a charge Asin has denied. The actress said Kumar had stopped working for her but had called her up and demanded money."After the aide left my employment, he has called me several times asking for money up to Rs15 lakhs to settle unpaid bills, although I am in no way concerned with his problems. I have, however, offered to cooperate with the police personnel to find Kumar in Mumbai," Asin said in a statement.Vadivu, who said Kumar worked with Asin for four years, has alleged wrongdoing on the part of the actor."While Asin's father Joseph claimed to have sacked my son after he joined the Mumbai underworld several days ago, Asin has been saying different things and now I suspect Kumar is being detained because he knows the family's dirty secrets," Vadivu said."I am afraid that if I speak out, my son's life will be endangered," she added.Asin has said that all accusations against her were false.Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Sangram Jangid said the matter was just "being blown out of proportion"."For reasons best known to the media, the issue is being blown out of proportion. The registered complaint is being investigated by my subordinates. There is nothing more to it," Jangid said.Asin is currently shooting for London Dreams as the female lead with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.

But only of it is a challenging and substantial script

After the "Ghajini" success, southern actress Asin Thottumkal is concentrating on Bollywood films but says she won't mind doing Tamil movies if she gets a challenging role to play."I would start shooting on the same day when someone will narrate a challenging and substantial script to me," said Asin, who also featured in the Tamil version of "Ghajini", in Chennai on Tuesday at the press meet. The actress, who is the brand ambassador of Tata-Sky DTH, was in town to honour the winner of an on-line game competition conducted by the company. Asin said she too uses Tata-Sky DTH at her home in Mumbai. With several Bollywood projects in hand, Asin moved base to Mumbai from Chennai. She was recently in the news for allegedly torturing her maid Beulah. When asked about it, she said: "Life is not always stereotypical, you know. At times, you are faced with events that may not be entirely to your liking. One has to learn to take things in your stride. As long as one doesn't commit mistakes, he or she needn't fear anyone." Her next Hindi film will be "London Dreams" in which she has teamed up with Salman Khan and Ajay Devgan.Indo-Asian News Service

Actor said to be moving out of parents’ house

Ranbir Kapoor, who was happy living in his parents’ bungalow till now, is reportedly searching for a home for himself. The reason is said to be girlfriend Deepika Padukone. Apparently, the senior Kapoors are not too fond of their son’s choice. This put Ranbir in a difficult situation as he could not spend quality time with Deepika at his home. However, he also did not want to upset any of the two parties. So his friends suggested the idea of moving out. Ranbir took it seriously and has begun home hunting. He is, in fact, looking out for a house which is not too far away from his parents. The senior Kapoors are unhappy with his decision but then that’s the best way out.

Even big bucks can't get him to dance on stage

Though we have seen him in two films, we have yet to see Ranbir Kapoor dance live on stage.Though he co-hosted this year’s Filmfare awards ceremony, he has been saying no to all offers to dance at award nights or similar events.Apparently, Ranbir is unwilling to dance to the songs of other actors and feels he still does not have a well-stocked kitty of his own songs and is therefore not ready to show his dance moves on stage.Ranbir, reportedly, was offered a huge sum, close to Rs. 2 crore, to perform at next week’s IIFA awards in Macau, but he turned it down

Is Hrithik just promoting Kites or is there more to this cosiness with Barbara

Barely a month has passed since Sussanne allegedly walked out on Hrithik because of his alleged affair with his Kites co-star Barbara Mori. However, the two managed to resolve their issues and Barbs was packed off to Mexico and things seemed to be getting back to normal. He has made a dance extravaganza centring around street children

After editing a flurry of critically acclaimed films like "Makdee", "Maqbool" and "Parzania", National Award-winning editor Aarif Sheikh, has now gone behind the camera for his directorial debut "Let's Dance" - a dance extravaganza that centres around street children."Although dancing is the DNA of the film, I was very sure that my story needed to be solid. It needed to hold on its own," Sheikh said in a press statement. Produced by Arvind Patel, "Let's Dance" stars debutante Gayatri Patel and other lesser known actors like Ajay Chaudhary, Aqib Afzaal, Sugandha Garg, Asif Basra, Abhaas Yadav, and Nikuunj Padaya. But Sheikh, who won the National Award for Sushmita Sen-starrer "Samay - When Time Strikes" in 2004, says he was unfazed about working with new artists. "Although I was working with mostly new artistes, I never had any trouble extracting performances as all my actors were perceptive," he said. Sheikh is particularly happy with his lead heroine Gayatri, who was born and brought up in the US. In "Let's Dance", she plays a simple but determined dance teacher, who decides to motivate a group of underprivileged kids. "Gayatri is simply fabulous in dance and that's why we call her ‘the dancing tornado'. I couldn't have had a better dancer than her for a film like this," he said. The debutant director is now looking forward to his film's release on June 19. "I will never forget ‘Let's Dance'... It's embedded in my soul. Every shot, every scene, every creative decision of mine," Sheikh said. Indo-Asian News Service

A.R. Rahman says life has dramatically changed after Oscars

Being voted one of the 100 most influential people by Time magazine has seen his popularity soar. Oscar-winning Indian composer A.R. Rahman not only got an opportunity to share the same platform with US First Lady Michelle Obama, he also had the whole audience in New York chanting "Jai ho"."At the function I was on the same table as Michelle Obama, Oprah Winfrey and the CEO of Time magazine. When I went up to the stage, a chant of 'Jai ho' (the Oscar-winning song from 'Slumdog Millionaire') went up in the house." The music maestro, who won two golden statuettes for his compositions in British filmmaker Danny Boyle's underdog drama, says the awards have had a huge impact on his life. "The impact of 'Slumdog Millionaire' has been tremendous. The western perception of Third World countries has changed. Earlier when some of the most talented musicians of Asia would approach western companies, they'd encounter stumbling blocks. Today that has changed. The west is ready to listen to us," Rahman told IANS in an interview. Rahman admits that dealing with the huge amount of attention after the Oscars has been unnerving. "Yes, the Oscar changed my life. I can't even attend places of prayer without being recognised. Even when I'm at malls in the US, kids freeze in recognition when they see me. I need to concentrate on my music. I'm not the kind of guy who can pull himself away from my music, attend functions, give interviews and get back to what I'm supposed to do. It's like entering and leaving new cities," he said.

Gayatri Patel debuting in ‘Let’s Dance’

A new, true-blue Gujju actress, Gayatri Patel (pictured left), is all set to make her mark in the upcoming dance extravaganza “Let’s Dance”. Born-and-bred in America, Gayatri has been Miss India Georgia and also the first runner-up at Miss India USA pageant. She’s trained in Kathak and is also a pro at yoga. This helps her attempt the most daring dance steps, breath-taking whirls and swirls and some awesome splits. No wonder, she’s called a dancing tornado.“Dancing doesn't have to be done only on fast, racy numbers, but even on slow soothing tracks. Just listen to the beats and they will be the guiding force in how you move your body,” says Gayatri.“Of course, experienced dancers can also dance in the space between beats. Once you get your groove on, you can try to dance off-beat too. It's an art in itself,” she adds.Directed by National Award-winning editor Aarif Sheikh, ‘Let’s Dance’ will hit the theatres on June 19. Let’s see if Gayatri can make us dance to her tunes

Actor continues to rock offbeat cinema

Though the actor was not present, Abhay Deol (pictured above) still made his presence felt at the recent Cannes Film Festival. Dev Benegal's “Road Movie”, which has Abhay in the lead, received a thunderous applause at the festival.Tannishtha Chatterjee plays Abhay's love interest in the film.A source said, "Abhay plays a truck driver whose life goes through a complete transformation. The way it is shown in the film influences the viewers. It inspires the audience to bring about a change in their lives too. Abhay's character is the kind the audience can easily relate to."“Road Movie” shows Abhay meeting different people including a young boy, a tribalwoman, a silly and a wise man during his journey. "Road Movie created a strong buzz in Cannes just like ‘Slumdog Millionaire’ did recently," said the source.

He has now got her hooked on internet

The well-read, well-travelled Saif Ali Khan is surely enriching Kareena Kapoor’s personality, who earlier had little academic interest. However, she recently admitted that her English vocabulary was increasing because of Saif, who introduces her to new words fairly regularly. Now she has credited him with making her more technology-friendly.Apparently, Saif has upgraded girlfriend Kareena’s first laptop (also gifted by him) with an Apple MacBook Pro laptop, which he bought for her in London. And, it has become Kareena’s constant companion."Till last year, I wasn't very net-savvy but today I can't do without my MacBook Pro. It's all thanks to Saif who has taught me about the internet and its joys. Now I do everything on my laptop from checking out my email and photo-shoot pictures to my endorsements," she has said.Kareena has also seen bits of Saif's home production “Love Aaj Kal” on the laptop. "The film is gorgeous. I loved it. It's so emotional, funny, cute and touching. I feel Saif, Imtiaz, and Deepika will go five steps ahead with this film," she said.

They seem to be perpetually on verge of splitting

Ever since Shahid Kapur and Priyanka Chopra got into a romantic relationship, there have been more stories about their split, than their togetherness. The main problem has been their conflicting personalities. Priyanka loves her independence, working hard and playing harder while Shahid is possessive and leads a disciplined life. Now, once again we are hearing about trouble between them and Priyanka getting tired of being constantly told what to do and what not by Shahid. Priyanka is in Bangkok for the shooting of “Pyaar Impossible” and there have been constant reports of how she’s partying and having wild fun.Though Shahid has not accompanied her, he is said to be keeping a tab on her by calling her constantly. Priyanka has reportedly even avoided his calls by saying she is busy. However, when Shahid continued calling her, she is said to have turned on the speaker of her mobile phone, letting everyone listen to Shahid’s talks. This understandably embarrassed Shahid and he is said to have backed off, at least for the time being.

She makes uncharacteristic effort to hide cracks in relationship

Rumours of trouble between Salman and Katrina are stronger than ever. More tongues wagged after Saturday’s incident, when Salman apparently did not include Katrina in his guest list for a bash at his residence. This prompted Katrina to make an uncharacteristic effort to mend her strained relationship. On Sunday (May 31), before flying off to Malaysia to shoot for a shampoo ad, Katrina spent considerable time with Salman on the sets of his movie “Wanted Dead or Alive” at the Film City in Mumbai. She was with Sallu not just in his vanity van but also on the sets, in full public view. This behaviour is quite unlike her because normally she is not welcoming of even being photographed with Salman in public. The couple even had dinner together along with other unit members, including Boney Kapoor, Vashu and Jackky Bhagnani and Arjun Kapoor. Katrina was with Salman till pack up, after which he personally went to drop her till her car and she drove off to the airport. It is up to us to read between the lines and decide whether all’s well between them or are they making an effort to paint a rosy picture to hide the cracks caused by the John-Katrina linkup, which has left Salman furious. One thing is sure though, Katrina will have to continue making the effort and giving Sallu comfort. After all, she is likely to be working in Dostana 2 opposite Sallu’s two pet hates – John Abraham and Abhishek Bachchan – and we don’t even want to think of how angry this will make him.
